to venture to the land
one day she came upon her chance
and grabbed a hold his hand
the sorrow she had learned ashore
then followed her to sea
the tightness of salt water
so caused her mind to flee
breath was hard to come by
her sanity as well
she regretted going onto land
her friends--she'd never tell
she certainly could not confess
how man had made her feel
her ocean dreams were haunted
soon her scales began to peel
she drowned some five weeks after
she washed up on the shore
the urge to venture onto sand
was longed for never more
